One should never underestimate Aaron Sorkin. He’s always going to make mistakes, but when it comes down to it he’s still one of Hollywood’s finest writers. This Christmas he’s about to show the naysayers that he’s back in style after all the problems with Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. That’s when Charlie Wilson’s War opens in theaters. Starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman (among many other fine actors), it focuses on the story of how an alcoholic, fun-loving Democratic Congressman called Charlie Wilson managed to get the Afghan Mujahedin funded in the war against the Soviet Union (thereby also arming the people that would attack America twenty years later).
It’s a political comedy that apparently is alarmingly close to what really happened and Mike Nichols is the right guy to do it, considering what Primary Colors (1998) turned into. Congratulations to Sorkin who looks like he’s done it again.

Yay! This looks entirely like my cup of tea: I like political movies, I like Sorkin and I really like Hoffman. If this is up to the standard of Primary Colors or Wag the Dog, I’m going to have a really good time.
