Top Five Bond Songs
Every Bond film (except the first one) has a song played over the opening credits. They’re important, one of the first impressions the audience gets of the latest 007 adventure. Here’s a list of the five greatest Bond songs ever.
- 1. Nobody Does It Better – The YouTube clip shows the opening credits from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). The song, the finest Bond tune ever, is performed by Carly Simon. It is basically the only song to celebrate James Bond in such a grand way. “Baby, you’re the best”, indeed.
- 2. Live and Let Die – Paul McCartney & Wings became the first rock band ever to perform a Bond song. The results are classic and inspired every other subsequent rock band that were asked to deliver a Bond song of their own. The movie was Live and Let Die (1973).
- 3. A View to a Kill – In 1985, Roger Moore started to feel like he was getting too old to play James Bond. However, Duran Duran’s song appealed to modern audiences and became a massive hit. The movie was A View to a Kill.
- 4. Goldfinger/GoldenEye – These two songs, from Goldfinger (1964) and GoldenEye (1995), are similar in certain ways. I prefer the Tina Turner version; she sings it with great authority. But the older version has amazing lyrics and remains a classic, not least because of Shirley Bassey’s interpretation; she went on to sing two additional Bond songs.
- 5. The Living Daylights – Norwegian band a-ha repeated Duran Duran’s successful formula from 1985 with this song. The movie is The Living Daylights (1987).
