In their latest issue, Entertainment Weekly shows the first pictures of Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Banks as George W. Bush and Laura Bush in Oliver Stone’s new movie, W. The magazine has also talked to those involved and it increases one’s interest in this project; it certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to be a positive portrayal of the Bush presidency, but would that even be possible? Brolin is working hard on creating his interpretation and looks quite convincing in EW’s pictures. Banks on the other hand might not be as impressive as Laura. In the interview, she gives the impression of paying most attention to the First Lady’s hairdo, and the picture on the cover of EW has her looking much too young in comparison to Brolin’s Bush. The image is cause for alarm. As one of my friends said, “It’s typical. They get the guy right, but the woman is neglected”.
Empire is also reporting that Scott Glenn has been cast as Donald Rumsfeld. Still no word though on who will be playing Dick Cheney. EW leaves open the possibility of Paul Giamatti. He’s excellent as John Adams in the HBO miniseries… but as Cheney? I can’t really see it.
Let’s just hope they can get the script in order after all the rewrites. That’s one of the most important parts of this project.
