The Music of Gettysburg and Gods and Generals

I have just finished watching Gods and Generals (2003), the 75-hour long prequel to Gettysburg (1993). Although somewhat of a drag, one of its best parts comes during the closing credits. If I understand it correctly, Bob Dylan wrote “Cross the Green Mountain” specifically for this film. It’s a beautiful song and the video shows the old entertainer in Civil War-era garb among soldiers and tents.

The music of the predecessor to Gods and Generals should also be appreciated. Gettysburg is well known and highly regarded among film music aficionados for Randy Edelman’s grand score. It is still his most popular and the following video plays the main title theme.
