Button/Gump
Maybe this is the year of “Button/Gump” rather than Frost/Nixon. My brother sent me this video (from FunnyOrDie.com) that makes it perfectly clear how similar The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is to Forrest Gump (1994). Eric Roth wrote both scripts, which explains a lot. Still, I never thought of Forrest Gump while watching the David Fincher film, so the similarities are not really that obvious… or chances are that I’m just too slow.

Yo Stefan, I agree with your own assessment, you are just slow! Ha, just kdding. In all seriousness though, my mother saw CCOBB when it came out on Christmas and immediately told me it reminded her of “Forrest Gump” in many ways. Anyway, do you think the film deserves all the Oscar nods it got? Personally, I was hoping for “Gran Torino” to get something. I thought that was a great film. Moreover the theme song by Jamie Cullum is absolutely beautiful. If you haven’t heard it, check it out on youtube.
I’m checking out “The Wrestler” tonight w/ a friend and hope to see “Revolutionary Road” on Saturday. I hadn’t really planned on seeing CCOBB but now that it’s got all this Oscar buzz I may reconsider.
Hope you are well……….

Hi, Greg! Great to hear from you. All is well. I’m very curious about The Wrestler and found it strange to see that Bruce Springsteen didn’t get a nomination for his song. As for Benjamin Button, it’s a good movie but also one of those that easily garners many nominations because of all the technical categories. I don’t think it deserves a Best Picture Oscar, but the way they make Pitt grow old (and younger) is marvelous.
