Oz and James: Drinking Through France. And California. And Britain.
I don’t know what the friendship between wine writer Oz Clarke and Top Gear co-host James May looks like when the cameras are off. When they’re on, Oz and James can’t stop bickering as they travel through the south of France, California and Britain sampling the various alcoholic beverages the countries have to offer. They have been doing this now for two series of the BBC’s Oz and James’s Big Wine Adventure as well as Oz and James Drink to Britain, the latter broadcast earlier this year on BBC Two. The point of their journeys is to have Oz trying to teach James a thing or two about the drinks he normally downs with much haste and very little contemplation – but that won’t happen without some friction.
I saw the first series about a year ago on the now defunct BBC Food, but I caught it again on BBC Lifestyle about a week ago. I guess I should try to get ahold of the two subsequent series. Watching the show, you will learn a thing or two about wine… but the love-hate relationship between Oz and James is likely to overshadow the educational aspects.
The YouTube clip is from the first series and shows James telling Oz everything he’s learned about French wine in one minute.
