The Golden Globes Need No Host... But Gervais Will Be Great

Today we learned that the Golden Globes show will have a host. They usually don’t, which is probably one reason why the stars seem to be so relaxed about attending them. They sit at tables, eat a little, drink a lot of champagne and suddenly all the awards have been handed out. There’s nothing uptight or bloated about it.

Next year the show will be telecast on NBC on January 17th and it’s the first time since 1995 that a host has been picked. Ricky Gervais has been hilarious in all of his previous appearances on awards shows (watch the clip from this year’s Emmys), but it’s a mixed blessing. The Golden Globes really don’t need a host because the decision will most likely mean a longer running time… but if they have to have one, they might as well have Gervais.
