This fourth season of Showtime’s Dexter has been devastatingly good, one of the best, not only because of the emotional journey that Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) has taken. This has been one of Carpenter’s best performances and she deserves to get both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations… but so does John Lithgow who’s been absolutely brilliant as rival serial killer Trinity. Lithgow is one of those versatile actors who know how to use their bodies to achieve a certain effect; on this show he’s towering and intimidating, a seriously twisted murderer who knows how to confront Dexter. It’s also been great fun (and exciting) to watch Dexter screw up more than usual over the season, as parenthood has made him slower, more tired and inclined to make poor judgment calls.
This is still one of the greatest shows on American television and it would be nice to see some recognition in the shape of big awards in 2010.
The clip above shows an interview on CBS’s The Early Show with Lithgow where he talks about his character.
