From Good Cop to Bad Cop

Even if you watch a lot of television, like me, it is impossible to catch everything. Sometimes you fall behind even on the good stuff. I didn’t watch The Shield when it was on, but I’ve caught up and I’m glad I did. The review will be posted soon. One of the main reasons why the show is such a treat is the performance of Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey, a terminally rotten cop. Over the past two decades, watching Chiklis on TV has been like watching Two-Face from “Batman” – he went from playing the jovial, overweight police commissioner on The Commish to a corrupt, brawny leader of a police unit fighting gang violence on The Shield. The clips above are trailers from both shows that put the difference between the characters on stark display.

I realize that both shows are now part of the past and that I’ve fallen behind… but watching these clips is a relevant reminder of the fact that we should see more of Chiklis. He deserves something far juicier than the Fantastic Four movies… and so does The Shield colleague Walton Goggins who last played a very predictable character in Predators.
