The Roots' Fatal Bachmann Mistake
So, Michele Bachmann was a guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon the other night. As you can see in the clip above, she was greeted with a perky tune that she failed to recognize. So did I. Well, the song is called “Lyin Ass Bitch” and was originally recorded by Fishbone. Apparently, the stunt was performed by Fallon’s house band The Roots without the production knowing. The day after, Fallon apologized to the Bachmann camp on Twitter, saying “I’m so sorry about the intro mess.”
What’s there to say about the mess, then? After listening to the song, I watched the clip – and laughed. It is funny, as they say, because it’s true. Bachmann has consistently used lies in the Republican primary debates and this has not been highlighted enough by the mainstream media.
Still, a few seconds after the intro one begins to ponder it in a rational way and reaches the only possible conclusion – The Roots made a mistake. First of all, Bachmann was obviously a guest on the show and deserves some respect. Why else would she ever consider making another appearance on the show? If The Roots wished to burn bridges, they did a nice job but went behind the backs of everyone else at the show… which ends up hurting all of them.
Second, the stunt hurts the effort to sink Michele Bachmann and Republicans in general. If you want to fight them and hurt them for real, you don’t go after them with cheap stunts and lies. You go after their cheap stunts and lies.
