Viva the Wilhelm Scream
You may be familiar with the famous Wilhelm Scream, a pre-recorded scream that filmmakers often use in their movies, either because it’s quite effective (especially when a character falls off a cliff or something) or as a knowing wink to those in the audience who recognize a Wilhelm Scream when they hear one. According to Wikipedia, the scream first appeared in the film Distant Drums (1951) and it was probably performed by actor Sheb Wooley.
This YouTube video is a compilation of many movie and TV clips where the Scream has been used. Pretty funny.
