What’s it all about?
British womanizer Alfie Elkins (Jude Law) enjoys life in Manhattan, but a series of incidents forces him to question his no-strings-attached existence. This remake is not as dark as the 1966 original and doesn’t have the benefit of the whole “Swinging London” context, but it is however smoothly produced. Sexy and entertaining, it also manages to deal with questions regarding what kind of life young men dream about. Law is very good, believable both as the irresistible charmer and his subsequently dour other self. The supporting cast and the locations also add flavor.
2004-U.S. 106 min. Color. Directed by Charles Shyer. Song: “Old Habits Die Hard” (Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart). Cast: Jude Law (Alfie Elkins), Marisa Tomei (Julie), Omar Epps (Marlon), Nia Long, Jane Krakowski, Sienna Miller… Susan Sarandon.
Golden Globe: Best Original Song.
