When Law arrives at wealthy crime writer Caine’s elaborate estate to convince him to grant his girlfriend, Caine’s wife, divorce, he becomes a pawn in a game. This remake of the 1972 film has been considerably changed; the basic structure is there, but Mr. Pinter has made the proceedings much darker, emphasized the theme of humiliation and tried to add more depth to the characters. As a result, it has been drained of all fun, although the acting is as expected very good.
2007-U.S. 85 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by Jude Law, Kenneth Branagh, Simon Halfon, Simon Moseley, Marion Pilowsky, Tom Sternberg. Directed by Kenneth Branagh. Screenplay: Harold Pinter. Play: Anthony Shaffer. Cast: Michael Caine (Andrew Wyke), Jude Law (Milo Tindle). Cameo: Harold Pinter.
Trivia: This is the second film where Mr. Law plays a character first done by Mr. Caine (the other film being Alfie).
