When Milo Tindle (Jude Law) arrives at wealthy crime writer Andrew Wyke’s (Michael Caine) elaborate estate, he wants Wyke to grant his wife (Milo’s new girlfriend) divorce but ends up as a pawn in a game. This remake of the 1972 film has been considerably changed; the basic structure is there, but Harold Pinter has made the proceedings much darker, emphasized the theme of humiliation and tried to add more depth to the characters. As a result, it has been drained of all fun, although the acting is very good, as expected.
2007-U.S. 86 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by Jude Law, Kenneth Branagh, Simon Halfon, Simon Moseley, Marion Pilowsky, Tom Sternberg. Directed by Kenneth Branagh. Screenplay: Harold Pinter. Play: Anthony Shaffer. Cast: Michael Caine (Andrew Wyke), Jude Law (Milo Tindle). Cameo: Harold Pinter.
Trivia: This is the second film where Law plays a character first done by Caine (the other film being Alfie).
