Bedazzled

Meet the Devil. She’s giving Elliot seven wishes. But not a chance in hell.

Nerdy Elliot Richards (Brendan Fraser) meets the Devil who happens to be a gorgeous woman (Elizabeth Hurley); she grants him wishes, but there’s a catch to each one of them. This Hollywoodization of the 1967 British classic was made by a gifted director who’s saddled with fantasies that aren’t very well conceived and not that funny. It does however move agreeably enough. Hurley delivers a cool performance and must have enjoyed changing outfits for her every scene; Fraser is fun in his many roles, be it a Colombian drug lord or Abraham Lincoln.

2000-U.S. 93 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Harold Ramis. Cast: Brendan Fraser (Elliot Richards), Elizabeth Hurley (The Devil), Frances O’Connor (Alison Gardner), Miriam Shor, Orlando Jones, Paul Adelstein.
