Man on Fire
A promise to protect. A vow to avenge.
John Creasy (Denzel Washington), an alcoholic former CIA assassin, is hired as a bodyguard to a 9-year-old girl (Dakota Fanning) in Mexico City at a time when kidnappings are rampant. This remake of a 1987 Scott Glenn movie is bombastic to a near-ridiculous level; much too long and full of director Tony Scott’s expected (and tiresome) tricks in editing and cinematography. The story is a traditional revenge saga, but what does lift it out of the ordinary is the gripping and cute relationship between bodyguard and client.
2004-U.S. 145 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Tony Scott. Cast: Denzel Washington (John Creasy), Dakota Fanning (Pita Ramon), Marc Anthony (Samuel Ramos), Radha Mitchell, Christopher Walken, Giancarlo Giannini… Mickey Rourke.
Trivia: Michael Bay and Antoine Fuqua were allegedly considered for directing duties; Robert De Niro, Will Smith and Bruce Willis for the part of Creasy.
