Hancock
There are heroes. There are superheroes. And then there’s Hancock.
Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman), a down-and-out PR man, takes on an alcoholic superhero (Will Smith) who’s in desperate need of improving his standing in the community. Loved the trailer, not so much the movie. It starts amusingly enough with great visual effects, plenty of energy, funny oneliners and a perfect part for the ever likable Bateman. However, in the final half-hour the film turns sour and more violent, ditches the jokes and starts looking for some depth to the Hancock character. It’s an unfortunate turn that it never really recovers from.
2008-U.S. 90 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by Will Smith, Michael Mann, Akiva Goldsman, James Lassiter. Directed by Peter Berg. Cast: Will Smith (John Hancock), Charlize Theron (Mary Embrey), Jason Bateman (Ray Embrey), Jae Head, Eddie Marsan, David Mattey.

Hancock looks like interesting spin on the latest superhero movie craze… if nothing else at least Will Smith tends to be pretty funny
