Shrek the Third

The wait is ogre!

When the King of Far, Far Away dies, Shrek is next in line to the throne; he refuses to shoulder the mantle and goes on a quest with Donkey and Puss in Boots to find the next man in line. There isn’t much left of the first film’s ingenious satire and the third chapter isn’t as funny as the predecessors. Instead we get to follow Shrek’s predictable path to maturity. Still, there’s enough here to make it a fun night for kids and adults alike; some of the fairy-tale spoofs are amusing. Once again, both Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas deliver as Shrek’s sidekicks, a very odd couple.

2007-U.S. Animated. 93 min. Color. Directed by Chris Miller. Voices of Mike Myers (Shrek), Eddie Murphy (Donkey), Cameron Diaz (Fiona), Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews, John Cleese… Rupert Everett, Eric Idle, Justin Timberlake, Seth Rogen, Larry King, Ian McShane, Regis Philbin, Amy Poehler, Amy Sedaris.
