Death Race
Get ready for a killer ride.
Some time in the future, a prison warden (Joan Allen) tells a convict (Jason Statham) that if he wins a deadly car race on the premises he will gain his freedom. The 1975 action movie Death Race 2000 gets the Paul W.S. Anderson treatment – that means a lot of noise and a grim futuristic setting. Competently made and entertaining up to a point. Unfortunately, you know what’s going to happen at every turn of the story and the talents of Allen and Ian McShane are wasted.
2008-U.S. 105 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. Cast: Jason Statham (Jensen Ames), Joan Allen (Hennessey), Ian McShane (Coach), Tyrese Gibson, Natalie Martinez, Max Ryan.
Trivia: Co-executive produced by Roger Corman. David Carradine, who played Frankenstein in the original movie, does the voice of this new Frankenstein.
