At a time when traditional sitcoms were marked for extinction, a group of veterans gathered to prove everyone wrong. The creators had enjoyed much success previously and the show united two sitcom stars, Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) and Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond); the always reliable Fred Willard was also added to the cast. What could go wrong? Well, the writers’ strike didn’t help, but the primary reason why the show never became a hit was its relative blandness. Neither funny nor compelling enough, Grammer and Heaton did however look comfortable as the news anchors who spent all their time either arguing with each other at work or pondering how to raise their daughter.
