A battle fought in the stars. Now… comes to Earth.
On planet Eternia, the evil Skeletor (Frank Langella) wants to achieve limitless power but is fought by He-Man (Dolph Lundgren); now the battle reaches Earth. This adaptation of the action figure series has opening credits and music similar to Superman and a subsequent style borrowed from Star Wars. Looks cheap, even though plenty of money was spent on it. Moving the story to Earth is a plus, but the cast isn’t; Lundgren looks like he stepped out of a gay gladiator flick.
1987-U.S. 105 min. Color. Directed by Gary Goddard. Cast: Dolph Lundgren (He-Man), Frank Langella (Skeletor), Courteney Cox (Julie Winston), James Tolkan, Meg Foster, Christina Pickles.
Trivia: Matthew Modine and Sylvester Stallone were allegedly considered for the part of He-Man. Some of the original ideas for a sequel to this film made its way into Cyborg (1989).
