A cop on the edge…
New Orleans cop Wes Block (Clint Eastwood) tries to find a man who has killed several young women, but his own lewd behavior makes him almost a suspect. Eastwood may look like Dirty Harry once again, but this thriller is more ambitious than the previous year’s Sudden Impact. The script has provocative moments. The idea is to show a person who has far too many character traits in common with a sexually disturbed serial killer, and the kind of balance act that follows. Intriguing, but overlong and the dialogue is silly. Clint is at his best in tender moments with his young daughter Alison.
1984-U.S. 115 min. Color. Directed by Richard Tuggle. Music: Lennie Niehaus. Cast: Clint Eastwood (Wes Block), Genevieve Bujold (Beryl Thibodeaux), Alison Eastwood (Amanda Block), Jennifer Beck, Dan Hedaya.
Trivia: The first of many Eastwood pics that Niehaus scored.
