G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
When all else fails, they don’t.
Duke and Ripcord (Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans) join the elite G.I. Joe unit and become centerpieces in the fight against a Scottish arms dealer (Christopher Eccleston) and his crew. Another movie based on Hasbro toys (in the vein of Transformers) that chronicles the beginning of the evil Cobra Command. A low point in Stephen Sommers’s career; noisy, plastic, overlong and featuring heroes and villains that are completely uninteresting. Sole virtue: an outrageous chase sequence on the streets of Paris.
2009-U.S. 118 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Stephen Sommers. Cast: Channing Tatum (Conrad “Duke” Hauser), Sienna Miller (Anastasia “Baroness” DeCobray), Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Byung-hun Lee… Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jonathan Pryce, Christopher Eccleston, Dennis Quaid. Cameo: Brendan Fraser.
Razzie: Worst Supporting Actress (Miller).
