It’s about first loves, last chances and everything in between.
Down-on-his-luck jingle writer Harvey Shine (Dustin Hoffman) goes to London to attend his daughter’s wedding and has a chance encounter with Kate Walker (Emma Thompson), an equally single and depressed saleswoman. After making Stranger Than Fiction (2006) together, the two stars looked for another project and found this sweet, romantic story about finding love when you least expect it. They are both so good that they make you forget the simplicity of the script; in the beginning Hoffman and Thompson look gray and downtrodden, but whenever they have scenes together they light up and you begin to see why anyone can fall in love with them. That’s masterful.
