Cold Case
Initially, this crime show felt like a breath of fresh air compared to some of Jerry Bruckheimer’s other projects – unlike CSI, this one cared about the murder victims and offered them and their relatives closure in the end. Every episode began with a team of Philadelphia detectives, including Lilly Rush (Kathryn Morris), opening up a cold case; as old witnesses and suspects started talking about a specific case, audiences were taken back to the year in question. It became sort of a visual testimony, accompanied by period details such as hits of the day. The stories were well told and often emotional, even though the formula was fairly set; unfortunately, whenever a name actor made a guest appearance he or she was also most likely the killer.
2003-2010:U.S. Made for TV. 156 episodes. Color. Created by Meredith Stiehm. Theme: Michael A. Levine. Cast: Kathryn Morris (Lilly Rush), John Finn (John Stillman), Jeremy Ratchford (Nick Vera), Thom Barry, Danny Pino, Tracy Thoms (05-10).

It is currently shown in Greece. It was a surprise to see Jerry Bruckheimer as the director; he presents the story through a “softer” perspective than he usually does, which was a pleasant surprise. I understand that the modern “catharsis” for a past misshapen (that always happens in the end and might even be too mellow sometimes) is one of it’s main cards. This, wrapped together with the atmosphere of the 60’s and 70’s, creates a charmful aura of nostalgia. On the other hand, I agree to some who say that the characters could become more elaborate and the plot more perplexted. Still, the solid promise for “future healing” of an old wound (how many of us wouldn’t like to see that happen?) will keep the most “emotinal” viewers coming back for an “easy” tv series. Even if they do not record it on TiVo each week. I think it’s a fair deal.
