The Librarian: Quest for the Spear
He didn’t want to be a hero. He only wanted a job.
Eternal student Flynn Carsen (Noah Wyle) finally seeks a job as a librarian, little dreaming that it’s a position he was destined to fill, one that will throw him into wondrous adventures. Yet another film inspired by the Indiana Jones movies, this one produced by Dean Devlin who apparently enjoyed the idea of elevating the status of librarians. Bet you didn’t know they’re guardians of the great secrets and mysteries of this world. Cheap special effects and a less than inspiring story are compensated by high spirits and likable performances by ER star Wyle and veteran comedians Bob Newhart and Jane Curtin.
2004-U.S. Made for TV. 92 min. Color. Directed by Peter Winther. Cast: Noah Wyle (Flynn Carsen), Sonya Walger (Nicole Noone), Bob Newhart (Judson), Kyle MacLachlan, Kelly Hu, Jane Curtin… Olympia Dukakis.
Trivia: Followed by two sequels, starting with The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines (2006).
