Morning Glory
Breakfast TV just got interesting.
Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) is hired as the new executive producer of Daybreak, the struggling, number-four national morning show, and her first major challenge is to find a replacement for the co-host that she fires on her first day. Writer Aline Brosh McKenna delivers a script that shares similarities with her The Devil Wears Prada (2006), but she knows which buttons to push. McAdams gives a solid lead performance as the workaholic who tries to pump some juice into Daybreak. She’s a perfect target for Harrison Ford’s grumpy outbreaks, and he’s a lot of fun as the aging reporter who looks a bit like Bob Woodward. Undeniably formulaic, but funny and energetic.
2010-U.S. 107 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced by J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk. Directed by Roger Michell. Screenplay: Aline Brosh McKenna. Song: “Strip Me” (performed by Natasha Bedingfield). Cast: Rachel McAdams (Becky Fuller), Harrison Ford (Mike Pomeroy), Diane Keaton (Colleen Peck), Patrick Wilson, Jeff Goldblum, John Pankow.
Trivia: Several TV journalists appear as themselves.
