Rat Race
563 Miles. 9 People. $2 Million. 1001 Problems!
A bored billionaire hides a $2 million treasure and sends off eight people; who will be the first to find it? This is the budget version of It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963)—instead of Spencer Tracy we get Breckin Meyer. The writing is weak and the elaborate gags tend to repeat themselves. The actors are more interesting; Mr. Lovitz scores high points as a slightly psychotic family man and gambling addict who first ends up in the wrong kind of Barbie museum and then behind the wheel of Adolf Hitler’s car.
2001-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Jerry Zucker. Cast: Whoopi Goldberg (Vera Baker), Jon Lovitz (Randall Pear), Rowan Atkinson (Enrico Pollini), Cuba Gooding, Jr., John Cleese, Kathy Najimy… Kathy Bates.
