Prince Albert (Guinness) is about to visit exiled family members of his; one purpose of the visit is to get him interested in princess Alexandra (Kelly), but that’s a challenge. When Ms. Kelly announced that she would marry Prince Rainier it was decided that she should star in this remake of a 1925 film where she would get to play a princess. She’s beautiful, but neither she nor Jourdan as her would-be lover are as watchable as Guinness and Landis. It’s a likeable film, but the material is pretty weak and the director does nothing special with it.
1956-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Charles Vidor. Play: Ferenc Molnár. Cast: Grace Kelly (Princess Alexandra), Alec Guinness (Prince Albert), Louis Jourdan (Nicholas Agi), Agnes Moorehead, Jessie Royce Landis, Brian Aherne… Leo G. Carroll.
Trivia: One Romantic Night (1930) is another version of the play.
