Deep Rising
Full scream ahead.
Skipper John Finnegan (Treat Williams) brings a crew of hardened criminals on his rickety boat; they plan to rob a luxurious cruise ship, but discover that a monster has made it a ghost ship. Expect no surprises in this not too subtle Alien rip-off, but the oceanic monster looks rather good and the movie pretty much gives you what you expect from it; this is water-drenched wall-to-wall action, with an amusing ending. The characters are far too predictable, but it’s fun to see Williams as a Han Solo-like adventurer.
1998-U.S. 106 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Stephen Sommers. Cast: Treat Williams (John Finnegan), Famke Janssen (Trillian St. James), Anthony Heald (Simon Canton), Wes Studi, Kevin J. O’Connor, Djimon Hounsou.
