Poltergeist III

He’s Found Her.

In this third part, Carol Anne’s family has been removed and the setting has changed from a California house to a Chicago highrise where she’s temporarily living with her aunt and uncle. Carol Anne’s clairvoyance still attracts the ghosts, but this film has the feel of a bad Nightmare on Elm Street sequel. There are a few spooky mirror tricks, but the special effects are mostly quite dour and Ms. O’Rourke is getting a little old for the part.

1988-U.S. 95 min. Color. Directed by Gary Sherman. Cast: Tom Skerritt (Bruce Gardner), Nancy Allen (Patricia Gardner), Heather O’Rourke (Carol Anne Freeling), Zelda Rubinstein, Lara Flynn Boyle, Kip Wentz.
Trivia: Some say this franchise is cursed; Dominique Dunne was murdered after the first movie, Julian Beck died of cancer after the second one and Ms. O’Rourke died shortly after the third one.

One and a half stars
