Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol
Take off with the original cast… and some new civilian recruits as they take to the streets and the skies to fight crime.
Once again, the mayor opens up Lassard’s (George Gaynes) police academy for anyone who wants to be a cop. The fourth movie reconnects a lot with the original, even bringing Harris (G.W. Bailey) back to train the new recruits, but the jokes are so poorly written that nobody even bothers trying to make them work on film. Steve Guttenberg is so superfluous to the “story” that he’s virtually invisible and the hot-air balloon finale is too weak for words.
1987-U.S. 87 min. Color. Directed by Jim Drake. Cast: Steve Guttenberg (Carey Mahoney), Bubba Smith (Moses Hightower), Michael Winslow (Larvell Jones), David Graf, Tim Kazurinsky, Sharon Stone… George Gaynes, David Spade.
Trivia: Followed by Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach (1988).
