Panic Room

It was supposed to be the safest room in the house.

As you may know, there are scared millionaires out there building safe rooms in their houses to keep the bad guys out. Sounds like a good idea for another rehash of the Die Hard concept, so Columbia Pictures have been kind enough to deliver a thriller where the main characters, a mother and her daughter, lock themselves up in a panic room as violent burglars take control of their brownstone. Director David Fincher looked to Hitchcock for this claustrophobic (albeit conventional) film; it’s very dark and tense. Jodie Foster is excellent but she deserves a more flamboyant villain than the one Forest Whitaker provides.

2002-U.S. 110 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by David Fincher. Cast: Jodie Foster (Meg Altman), Forest Whitaker (Burnham), Jared Leto (Junior), Kristen Stewart (Sarah Altman), Dwight Yoakam, Ann Magnuson. Voice of Nicole Kidman.

Trivia: Nicole Kidman was originally attached as the star of the film, but had to bow out due to a knee injury.
