You Wouldn’t Call It a Gang. Just Danny Ocean and His 11 Pals—The Night They Blew All the Lights in Las Vegas!
Ah, the glory of having the entire ”Rat Pack” gathered in one film—Sinatra, Martin, Davis, Jr., Bishop and Lawford are fun to watch as the criminals who intend to rob five casinos in Vegas. Never mind the job, there’s always time to have a drink, sing a song and get friendly with the ladies. But the stars seem to enjoy it more than the audience; the movie lacks the kind of entertainment value and story that could have made it a true classic. Amusing contributions from the guest stars, Ms. MacLaine in particular.
1960-U.S. 125 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced and directed by Lewis Milestone. Song: “Ee-O-Leven” (Sammy Cahn, Jimmy Van Heusen). Cast: Frank Sinatra (Danny Ocean), Dean Martin (Sam Harmon), Sammy Davis, Jr. (Josh Howard), Peter Lawford, Angie Dickinson, Richard Conte… Cesar Romero, Joey Bishop. Cameos: Shirley MacLaine, George Raft, Red Skelton.
Trivia: Remade as Ocean’s Eleven (2001).
