The Naked Gun 2 ½: The Smell of Fear
Frank Drebin is back. Just accept it.
Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) stumbles on a conspiracy hatched by powerful representatives of the oil, nuclear and coal industries. This sequel is quite similar to the original; Priscilla Presley’s character is once again working for the bad guy and even some of the jokes are recycled. Still, resisting a film as cheerfully silly as this one is hard. Everyone seems to have had a lot of fun making it and there are plenty of hilarious slapstick sequences to keep the laughs coming. Best part: the disastrous dinner at the Bush White House. Nielsen is priceless – and so is some of the dialogue.
1991-U.S. 85 min. Color. Directed by David Zucker. Cast: Leslie Nielsen (Frank Drebin), Priscilla Presley (Jane Spencer), George Kennedy (Ed Hocken), O.J. Simpson, Robert Goulet, Richard Griffiths. Cameo: Zsa Zsa Gabor.
Trivia: Followed by Naked Gun 33 ⅓: The Final Insult (1994).
Quote: “I’m sure that we can handle this situation maturely, just like the responsible adults that we are. Isn’t that right, mr… Poopy Pants?” (Nielsen to Goulet)
