The Village

Run. The truce is ending.

The people of a small, isolated Pennsylvania village have a special agreement with the creatures that inhabit the surrounding woods, but an accident brings about changes… Director M. Night Shyamalan’s first major misstep is supposedly an allegory about America after 9/11, but the whole set-up suffers from a lack of logic and leads to a twist that is unsatisfactory at best. The cast is either silly or dull, except Bryce Dallas Howard in her breakthrough as a blind girl who must challenge her fears.

2004-U.S. 110 min. Color. Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Music: James Newton Howard. Cast: Joaquin Phoenix (Lucius Hunt), Adrien Brody (Noah Percy), William Hurt (Edward Walker), Sigourney Weaver, Bryce Dallas Howard, Brendan Gleeson. Cameo: M. Night Shyamalan.
