Gone in Sixty Seconds
Ice cold. Hot wired.
Retired master car thief Randall “Memphis” Raines (Nicolas Cage) is forced back into the game when his brother (Giovanni Ribisi) screws up; in order to stay alive they must steal 50 high-end cars in one night. Few appreciated this remake of the 1974 original; there’s fast cars, faster editing and a relentless soundtrack. I find the script dumb and the director’s testosterone-pumping style headache-inducing. Angelina Jolie and Robert Duvall’s parts are thankless, but the final car chase is indeed exhilarating.
2000-U.S. 115 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Dominic Sena. Cast: Nicolas Cage (Randall ”Memphis” Raines), Giovanni Ribisi (Kip Raines), Angelina Jolie (Sara ”Sway” Wayland), Robert Duvall, Delroy Lindo, TJ Cross… Scott Caan, Christopher Eccleston, Frances Fisher, Vinnie Jones.
