300
Prepare for glory!
The Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) takes 300 of the city’s finest soldiers to face down the might of the huge Persian army. Based on the 480 BC Battle of Thermopylae, Frank Miller’s graphic novel gets the most animated adaptation he could imagine – the surroundings are entirely cooked up in computers. The cast moves around in them, but are less interesting. A technical achievement, but this blood-spattering, pompous epic has few characters one could care about; irony is an important factor, but gets lost in the execution.
2007-U.S. 116 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Zack Snyder. Graphic Novel: Frank Miller, Lynn Varley. Cast: Gerard Butler (King Leonidas), Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo), Dominic West (Theron), David Wenham, Vincent Regan, Michael Fassbender.
Trivia: The story was also told in The 300 Spartans (1962).
