The Stepford Wives

Make one.

Cynical TV producer Kidman move away from New York with husband Broderick and settle down in a small town where every woman seems to come straight out of a Republican fantasy about the 1950s. This remake of the 1975 classic keeps the satirical content, but the shock of the original is sorely missing (it’s no longer much of a secret) and the jokes aren’t that funny. Mr. Bart gives the most amusing performance as a “Stepford husband”, but Mr. Walken doesn’t do much with his part, unfortunately.

2004-U.S. 95 min. Color. Directed by Frank Oz. Cast: Nicole Kidman (Joanna Eberhart), Matthew Broderick (Walter Kresby), Bette Midler (Bobbie Markowitz), Glenn Close, Christopher Walken, Roger Bart… Jon Lovitz, Faith Hill.

Trivia: John and Joan Cusack were allegedly cast, but had to drop out. Tim Burton was allegedly considered for directing duties.
